A new front load washer in Saskatoon runs roughly $800 to $1,100 at most retailers, and a basic top load starts near $650. On our St George Avenue floor this week a tested refurbished washer is $479 and an open box compact is $749, which is why most machines leaving the store are not new.
Here is what is on the Saskatoon floor, what the three grades mean, and how to check a washer before you pay.

What washers cost in Saskatoon right now
Three machines cover the three common reasons people walk in:
- Refurbished Kenmore 110.45089400 front load, 27 inch, $479: see the $479 Kenmore washer. The cheapest way into a full size front load.
- Refurbished Maytag MVWC416FW0 top load, 27 inch, $549: see the $549 Maytag washer. Simple dials, no electronics to age badly.
- Open box Midea MLH27N5AWWC compact front load, 23.5 inch, $749: see the open box Midea washer. Fits where a 27 inch machine will not.
Samsung and GE refurbished models also land in the $550 to $600 range. Stock moves weekly, so the washers for sale in Saskatoon page is the honest place to look before you drive over.
Every price here is the tag price, not a starting point for haggling.
Top load, front load and compact: which fits your place
Most standard washers are 27 inches wide, the width of the laundry opening in most Saskatoon homes and older apartment buildings. Depth and use are what change.
Top load is cheapest and simplest to fix, and suits a room with space to open a lid. Front load uses less water and stacks under a dryer.
Compacts are 23.5 to 24 inches wide and 2.2 to 2.4 cubic feet instead of 4 or more, built for apartments. Measure the doorway, not just the alcove.
Refurbished, open box and scratch and dent, in plain words
Refurbished means the washer was used before, then drained, cleaned, repaired where needed and test cycled by our technicians. It works properly and may show light cosmetic wear.
Open box means the unit never went into service. It came back as a return or sat on a showroom floor, so the only thing missing is an unopened box. It is a new appliance, tested, guaranteed to work like new, with a one-year warranty.
Scratch and dent sits beside both: mechanically sound, cosmetically marked, priced down for it. In a basement nobody sees the dent.
The refurbished appliances in Saskatoon range and the open box washers in Saskatoon range both update with stock.
How to check a washer before you pay
Six things to look at, whether you are buying from us or from a stranger online:
- Spin the drum or basket by hand. It should turn freely with no grinding, wobble or water sloshing inside.
- Smell the drum. A sour, musty smell means mildew in the outer tub that no amount of cleaning fully removes.
- Check the door boot on a front load. A torn or black-flecked gasket is a $150 to $300 part.
- Ask for a test cycle. It should fill, agitate, drain and spin without banging or walking across the floor.
- Check the model plate and the age. A twelve-year-old machine at $479 is a different buy from a four-year-old one.
- Get the warranty in writing, and ask what was replaced.

Hookups, stairs and how delivery actually works here
A washer needs a cold inlet, usually a hot one, a drain standpipe and a grounded 120 volt outlet. All three have to exist where the machine is going, and plenty of Saskatoon basement suites have water but no drain.
Delivery is scheduled in the city, and washer installation includes levelling and a short test fill. Haul away of the old unit can go on the same ticket, which beats booking a separate hauler.
Measure the stair turn and the door width first. A 27 inch washer does not fit through every 28 inch doorway once hoses and a hand truck are in the way.
When a repair still beats a replacement
Most washer repairs land between $150 and $350. A drain pump, lid switch, belt or clogged pressure hose are worth fixing on a machine under ten years old, and our washer repair in Saskatoon techs cover all major brands whether or not you bought the unit from us.
The maths flips on a second or third fault, a dead transmission or main board, or a machine past ten to twelve years. There a $479 refurbished washer is cheaper than the repair and arrives with a warranty.
If you are not sure which side of that line you are on, call the store and describe the noise. The appliance repair service covers washers, dryers, fridges, dishwashers and stoves across the city.

The warranty and the returns, in plain words
Warranty length is written on each unit tag, not set by category. Refurbished washers usually carry 100 days of SMS Appliances coverage for repair or exchange, and open box carries a full year. Older clearance units can be shorter, so read the tag.
Returns run seven days from delivery. Sealed new carries a 20 percent restocking fee, opened 30 percent, and open box or as-is purchases are final. Delivery is not refundable, which is why measuring matters more than the discount.
Frequently asked questions
What is the cheapest washer in Saskatoon right now?
The refurbished Kenmore front load at $479 is the lowest full size unit on the floor this week. Smaller and older refurbished machines do land under $400, so it is worth calling to ask what came in.
Is a refurbished washer reliable enough for a rental property?
Yes, when it is tested and carries a written warranty. The 100 day refurbished coverage covers repair or exchange, which a private sale never gives you.
How wide is a standard washer?
Twenty seven inches for nearly every full size model, with 30 to 32 inches of depth. Compacts are 23.5 to 24 inches. Measure the doorway and stair turn too.
Do you deliver and install in Saskatoon?
Yes. Delivery and installation are scheduled in the city, and haul away can be added to the same trip.
Can you repair a washer you did not sell?
Yes. Our technicians service all major brands wherever the machine was bought, and will say when a repair stops being worth it.
What warranty comes with open box?
One year of SMS Appliances coverage, because an open box unit is a new appliance in a box somebody opened, not a refurbished machine.
Do you take the old washer away?
Yes, removal and recycling can be booked with the delivery, including appliances that no longer work.
